In reality

The scene was filmed Braker Lane between Domain Drive and Burnet Road in Austin. Despite appearing as a freeway in the film, it is actually a high-traffic three-lane road. In 2017, the Domain Tower was built in the general area of filming. The McDonald's sign visible in the distance during filming can still be seen today. The building across the street as Peter first switches lanes is the Bureau of Economic Geology.

The scene was filmed the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway (I-635) viewed from the Welch Road overpass looking east, with the Three Galleria Tower visible on the left side of the freeway. This stretch of highway in North Dallas is a notoriously congested commuter route, which made it a perfect stand-in for the opening traffic jam sequence. The area is surrounded by the Galleria Dallas shopping complex and dense office parks.
