Get out the knives and crossbows. The intimate story of one "red wedding" expands to global proportions: the world is ruled by several families with bad taste and good lawyers, and they are all now hunting the surviving bride from the first part (and her sister along with her). A biting, fast-paced, and delightfully absurd horror-comedy with wicked irony, inventive action, and Samara Weaving giving her all in every frame. Like "John Wick 2," but with a different High Table.
Who should watch: fans of the "girls chop everyone to pieces" genre.
They Will Kill You
The Russians are coming. Director Kirill Sokolov moved overseas and made a horror-action film about an ex-convict who gets a job as a housekeeper in a New York high-rise. Surprise, surprise—her employers turn out to be a satanic cult that has controlled the building for decades and plans to sacrifice her. A bloody orgy with imagination, signature black humor, and fight choreography that would make even the Koreans flinch. Like "The Raid" or "Dredd," but instead of a SWAT team, one barefoot woman with a lot of anger.
Who should watch: fans of "The Raid," "Dredd," and Kirill Sokolov's filmography (especially "Dad, Die").
Balls Up
Lay low in Rio. One goofball invents an innovative condom, another tries to sell it as official merchandise for the FIFA World Cup, and in the end, both become enemies of an entire country. A raucous road movie with the unpredictability of a mad dog, no emergency brakes, and a stunning appearance by Sacha Baron Cohen as a drug lord (Baron playing a baron, it all makes sense). Like "Dumb and Dumber," but even dumber.
Who should watch: fans of simple comedies where any plot holes are patched with explosions and dick jokes.
Spaceman
Interstellar. A Czech astronaut on a solo mission to Jupiter tries to figure out why his marriage is falling apart faster than the ship's hull. Therapy sessions for the astronaut are conducted by a giant spider that seems to exist only in his imagination. A slow, melancholic, and unexpectedly touching sci-fi drama about trying to escape everyday troubles at the edge of the universe—but you can't run away from yourself even at escape velocity. Like "Solaris," but without Tarkovsky and with Adam Sandler.
Who should watch: anyone who, after Project Hail Mary, wanted more stories about strange friendships in space.
Party Girl
A girl down on her luck. Mary, a flibbertigibbet with an impressive collection of colorful tights, throws underground rave parties and harasses a street falafel vendor. Another party gets busted by the cops, and to pay off her debts, Mary takes a job as a library clerk. A sweet and cozy, but at times too banal, comedy about taming a shrew—essentially, a film adaptation of the meme "girl picks up a book." Like "Breakfast at Tiffany's," but without the cat and the bling.
Who should watch: those nostalgic for the party indie comedies of the '90s—"200 Cigarettes," "Dazed and Confused," and all that.
