Last week we discussed the influence of the psychological aspect on those who are developing their voice.
Feedback from those who have already undergone a diagnostic session with our school's psychologist — here.
And today I will share how this factor is taken into account by vocal teachers.
In my opinion, the quality of training greatly depends on how well the teacher understands the student's psychology. It is no coincidence that when I was getting my higher education, we had a mandatory discipline "Psychology and Pedagogy". Its goal: to teach vocal teachers how to effectively present information to people with different nervous system structures.
Main types of information perception.
Perhaps you will recognize yourself in one of them😉
Imaginative thinking type.
Information is perceived through images that arise associatively or arbitrarily when interacting with an object.
Verbal-logical thinking type.
If it is easier for you to think in concrete sentences, you are good at writing and understanding texts, and you love structure and logic in everything — this is likely your type.
Visual-action thinking type.
Characteristic of those who like to learn everything through practice. If you love to "touch with your hands", test things on yourself, and rely on your life experience — this is for you. Such people often enjoy cooking, repairing, building.
Why is this important?
Teachers at our school explain the same vocal technique completely differently:
to a verbal-logical student they will say
lower your larynx
to a student with an imaginative thinking type
imagine a balloon in the throat area
and to a visual-action type
just yawn
And the result is the same!
🎬 By the way, in the video analyzing the evolution of Alla Pugacheva's voice on YouTube, I mentioned that there are special tests to determine the dominant thinking type.
I am sharing one of them, and you write in the comments which type of information perception prevails for you. Let's see who we have here in the chat👇🏻
