"Hokum" is cool. This is what the new "Silent Hill" should have been like.

What I mean: here we have a clear and dramatic personal story set in supernatural conditions with elements of typical jump scares for a boost of spirit and more creative creepy moments, not pulled out of thin air, but in the context of the character's conflict.

I liked that the main character was made an unpleasant jerk, making it hard to empathize with him until you understand the reason for his behavior.

The film works great both on the level of pure entertainment and on the level of subtext, psychology, and folkloric quirks.

Yet another confirmation that Irish horror is the most enjoyable these days.
