Left a trendy industry chat. This year, thanks to the crisis, I realized one thing.

That I was right. (because I'm a good PR person).

If you are promoting a business and want to make it sustainable, at a crucial moment you need to stop promoting yourself and start promoting the business brand. And that moment comes very quickly.

Why?

Because everything cannot hinge on you. Then you won't be able to get sick, burn out, or get pregnant.

Because someone might not like you as a character, and that can cast a shadow on the business.

Because it's easier for a business to pivot (this is not about alcoholism, it's a sharp change in activity) than for a person — just change marketing messages and reconfigure advertising. The positioning of a person in the industry lasts much longer — tested by my own bitter experience.

Be entrepreneurs, not personal brands.

In a crisis, it is precisely those with poor marketing that die. And moving solely on a personal brand is poor marketing. You can argue with me, but I am now dealing with the consequences of realizing this too late, only a year or a year and a half ago. Don't repeat my mistakes.
