Today I remembered a story that happened to me a couple of years ago. Nothing special, but I want to share.
A lady decided to publicly offend me or something like that. In response to my neutral remark about a house in a conversation with someone else (not her), she loudly asked: "Oh, are you still building it? Why so long? I thought you'd move in soon. Your husband should speed up!"
Usually I just freeze from rudeness and don't answer, but that day was different. Knowing that the lady had never been married and had been desperately trying to find someone for several years, I blurted out, without understanding how:
"Yes, the process is long, you're right. And how long did your husband take?"
Silence fell, someone chuckled. Then the silence was broken by the grinding of her teeth.
She hasn't spoken to me since, by the way. But as they say in my homeland — seven years the poppy didn't bear, we knew no hunger.
Have you ever had something similar, unlike you, something that surprised even yourself?
