Perhaps this is the most common question I hear during vocal diagnostics, after we have conducted a full analysis of the voice and identified what exactly needs to be worked on for it to develop.
I have already said many times about what factors affect the speed of learning vocals and that there is no single answer to this question for everyone (run away if they say there is and you will learn to sing in 1/3/10 lessons). Today I will tell you more about the three most important ones.
1️⃣ Methodology
The speed of your movement up the ladder of voice development depends most on what exactly you do during your vocal training sessions.
If you have weak soft palate muscles and you do breathing exercises every day, do not expect phenomenal results.
2️⃣ Regularity
With singing, as with any other skill, a simple rule applies: the more often you repeat an action, the stronger the neural connections in your head that coordinate it. Therefore, it is much more effective to practice for 15 minutes every day than for 1.5 hours once a week.
3️⃣ Individual learning ability of your nervous system
I think you have noticed that some people learn languages one after another, juggle and dance like gods, while others need a little more time to master a particular skill. If you are one of those people, take this into account in your vocal lessons and give yourself a little more time to repeat the material in order to achieve high results.
This Sunday I will be holding an open webinar "Answers to Questions About Voice Development", where you can ask a question about any of these elements of rapid vocal growth, and also finally find the answer to why you cannot hit high notes or experience throat tension.
