🆘 Ebola Bundibugyo strain: number of infections exceeds 500

As of May 19, the outbreak has grown to 543 cases and at least 131 deaths. The spread of the disease to Uganda's capital Kampala and the DRC capital Kinshasa has been confirmed.

According to the CDC, the mortality rate from the Bundibugyo virus ranges from 25 to 50 percent.

Yesterday, WHO held a meeting to assess whether the Ervebo vaccine, approved against the Zaire Ebola strain, could be used to combat the Bundibugyo strain.

Will there be cross-protection? Could it worsen the course of infection caused by another strain? Or will it become "immune distraction": the immune response against the Zaire glycoprotein may hinder the development of effective immunity against Bundibugyo.
