🆘 New Climate Scenarios Drop Worst-Case Option but Acknowledge 1.5°C Target Unattainable
The worst-case warming forecast has been reduced to about 3.5°C by 2100, but it is acknowledged that even the most optimistic scenario implies exceeding the Paris Agreement target of 1.5°C at the peak of warming.
“Staying below the 1.5-degree target is no longer possible,” AP reports from van Vuuren and nine out of ten surveyed scientists. This conclusion reflects reality: global carbon emissions continue to rise and remain in the atmosphere for about a hundred years.
Existing global measures are still insufficient to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.
