The film is based on real events - the widow Winchester, feeling pangs of conscience, endlessly built and rebuilt her house. The work continued until her fortune, inherited from her husband's invention of the weapon, ran out. And it was enough to build a huge house with a very confusing layout. It contains over 500 rooms and an endless number of corridors.

The scene was filmed like all close-ups of the house and grounds at the real Winchester Mansion. But many rooms are not suitable for filming. Therefore, artists and designers had to create rooms, stairs, and corridors on the studio lot. Some of them were slightly altered for convenience during filming, but overall everything we see on screen is practically a copy of the real mansion.
