The scene was filmed at Santa Maria del Popolo, a parish basilica, a titular church and minor basilica in Rome, run by the Augustinian order. The church contains works by several famous artists such as Raphael, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Caravaggio, and Alessandro Algardi. The chapel is not on the left side of the square as shown in the film, but on the right side.

The scene was filmed at the Angelica Library, a public library located on Piazza Sant'Agostino, next to the church of Sant'Agostino, near Piazza Navona. The library contains about 180,000 volumes of manuscripts (among them the Codex Angelicus).

The scene was filmed at the Pantheon (meaning 'every god'), the best-preserved building of Ancient Rome. This temple is dedicated to all the gods of pagan Rome. As shown by the brick stamps on the side of the building, it was built between 118 and 125 AD.
