In reality

The scene was filmed on a ship in the desert - this is the abandoned Soviet research vessel "Hydrator" in the drying Aral Sea. Access to the ship is free, but at the moment it has lost all its paint, as well as most of not only small parts, but also masts and everything that could be unscrewed.
