Filming took place in many locations at once - Hungary, Norway, UAE, Austria and Slovakia, but most of the scenes were shot in deserts, which is natural given the setting of the film. The main part of filming began on March 18, 2019 at the Origo film studio in Budapest; production also took place in the Jordanian desert of Wadi Rum. The Norwegian peninsula of Stadlandet served as the location for the planet Caladan. Filming also took place near Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, whose landscapes shaped the appearance of the planet Arrakis. Additional filming took place in Budapest in August 2020.
