The theater was the first movie theater built by Sid Grauman, who also was responsible for Grauman's Egyptian Theatre and Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard. For a time, the theater served as a Spanish-language church. Since 2006, it has been abandoned.
