Although the film's action takes place on the Amazon, the movie was filmed in Hawaii, where many scenes of the port city and railway were shot. Most of the jungle scenes were filmed in studios in Atlanta. However, the film crew spent a lot of time researching the flora and fauna of the Amazon jungle, including several expeditions. This was done to create a realistic and vibrant picture.

The scene was filmed on a real set. This entire huge structure was built on the shore of a reservoir specifically for filming. Yes, it's hard to believe, but these are not colonial buildings from the past, 1910, but just sets, and far from the only ones built for this film. Interestingly, interior scenes were also filmed in this city, meaning it's not just walls; many houses have detailed interiors. According to the director, this decision was made for more natural lighting and to create the right atmosphere.
