Despite the film's setting taking place mainly in France and England, as well as some other European cities, the filming took place entirely in the Czech Republic, specifically in Prague. Historical sites were used, which were disguised or modified. It is a common practice to film medieval Europe in the Czech Republic – it's cheaper, and Czech castles are very well preserved.

The scene where William and his team cross a ferry to London, recalling how his father once brought him to Sir Hector on a similar ferry and asked him to take him as a squire. They arrive to participate in a tournament, and in the next shot we see knights entering the city across London Bridge.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the Czech Republic, on Charles Bridge. The actual footage of the bridge was altered using computer graphics to create London Bridge with shops and houses that once lined the bridge. Interestingly, the weight of these structures, which residents built uncontrollably, eventually caused the bridge to collapse.

Notre-Dame Cathedral

In the Movie

The scene where William, wearing a decent doublet, goes to Notre-Dame Cathedral to meet Jocelyn. At that moment, she and her maid are washing their hands in holy water and walking deeper into the church, admiring the stained glass.

In Reality

The scene was filmed and the exterior of Notre-Dame Cathedral, Paris, again in the Czech Republic, Prague, for which St. Vitus Cathedral was a perfect fit. However, the cathedral does not fully resemble Notre-Dame, only in certain details, so you can notice that the cameraman chose a rather unusual angle, shooting William from below to capture only a specific part of St. Vitus Cathedral in close-up.

The Tournament

The scene where there is a break in the knightly tournament, during which William discovers that his lord Hector has died under a tree. He doesn't know what to do, but decides to compete in his place to win the prize. Roland doubts it, but ultimately decides to pull off this scam.

In Reality

The scene was filmed west of Prague, in the Czech Republic, near the village of Otročíněves, which has a population of about 500 people. Large wooden sets were built there specifically for the filming of this movie. The castle seen in the background is not real but was added using computer graphics.
