The film, made as a BBC television movie, tells the true story of photographer David Bailey and model Jean Shrimpton, whose revolutionary 1962 photo shoot for Vogue magazine in New York forever changed the fashion world. Bailey, a young and rebellious photographer from East London, is hired by Vogue on a modest contract of fifteen guineas. For the assignment, he chooses Jean Shrimpton, an inexperienced teenage model trying to escape a difficult home life. When the magazine launches the Young Ideas section targeting a young audience, Bailey and Jean travel to New York accompanied by fashion editor Lady Clare Rendlesham. Bailey ignores Lady Clare's traditional instructions and instead shoots raw, unorthodox street photographs with Jean as his muse, capturing her in candid poses against the gritty Manhattan backdrop. Lady Clare furiously demands Bailey's dismissal, but Vogue editor Ailsa Garland recognizes the revolutionary nature of his work and overrules her decision, launching one of the most iconic creative partnerships of the Swinging Sixties.
