The film is a tense thriller adapted from Frederick Knott's Broadway play of the same name. The story follows a blind woman named Susy Hendrix, played by Audrey Hepburn, who becomes the target of three criminals searching for a doll stuffed with heroin that was accidentally left in her apartment. Her husband Sam was asked by a mysterious woman at the airport to look after the doll, and it ended up in their Greenwich Village home. The criminals, led by the cunning and dangerous Harry Roat, devise an elaborate deception to force Susy to find and hand over the doll. They pretend to be acquaintances and police officers, concocting a fictional story that her husband is under investigation. As the deception escalates, Susy begins to realize she is being manipulated and must use her heightened senses and resourcefulness to survive against a ruthless killer in her darkened apartment. The film builds tension to one of the most iconic and truly terrifying climaxes in cinema history.

In Reality

The scene was filmed on a charming tree-lined street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of Manhattan, known as St. Luke's Place. The row of elegant Italianate brownstones from the 1850s has appeared in numerous films and TV series. The building at number 5 was used as the facade of Susy Hendrix's apartment, although on screen when Audrey Hepburn enters the building, the number 27B is visible.
