In reality

The scene was filmed at the historic New Amsterdam Theatre on 42nd Street in the heart of Manhattan's Theater District. Built in 1903, it was once the most luxurious theater on Broadway and the original home of the Ziegfeld Follies. By the early 1990s, when this film was shot, the building had fallen into severe disrepair with crumbling interiors, which was perfectly captured in the movie. It was later fully restored by the Disney company, and now hosts major Broadway productions.
