How the rating is calculated

Post rating

The post rating consists of:

  • user votes;
  • author rating;
  • community rating.

We believe that lively discussion is one of the main signs of good material, so:

  • each like on a comment gives the post an additional +0.5. 
  • each comment gives the post +1 rating;

That is, a post is not evaluated in a vacuum. If an author has been publishing quality materials for a long time, and the community maintains a high level of content, this helps new publications get into recommendations faster. And vice versa—if the content is low-quality, the lost reputation will prevent it from appearing in hot, but the author can always continue publishing in their community. 

Community rating

The community rating is calculated using the formula:

post rating × 0.1

Only the rating of posts from the first week after publication is taken into account (to exclude manipulation through long-published posts).

This is done specifically so that communities do not live on old reputation. If a community publishes weak or spammy content for a long time, its overall rating gradually decreases.

Because of this, one accidentally successful post will not be able to bring a community that has been publishing garbage for months into hot.

Author rating

The author rating consists of:

  • the rating of their posts;
  • user likes on their comments.

For us, it is important not only who writes articles but also who helps make discussions better.

What does a negative rating do?

On Tambur, a user can completely hide authors with a negative rating from their feed.

Posts with a negative rating do not appear in hot.

The community creator can prohibit authors with a negative rating from writing posts and comments. 

What a negative rating does not affect

Access to materials—you can read and view all content on the site regardless of rating.

Creating a community—an author with a negative rating can create their own community and write any content that does not violate the rules.
