Over the years, the building hosted many films and stage productions, but fell into disrepair in the late 1980s. After a major renovation, the theatre regained its former glory and reopened in 1995, now operating as a theatre and concert venue.

The scene was filmed at The Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library, built in 1995, occupies an entire city block downtown and was designed by Moshe Safdie of DA Architects. A large central atrium is flanked by the library on one side and several floors of reading rooms on the other. A 21-story office tower and retail spaces adjoin the main building.
