In the Movie

Scene where Team X attacks the fortress of an African dictator on Stryker's orders. The team consists of Victor, Wolverine, Wade Wilson, John Wraith, and Fred Dukes. They infiltrate the area and eliminate a large number of soldiers guarding the facility along the way.

In Reality

The scene was filmed on the grounds of the University of British Columbia. The gray buildings we see in the frame are the arts faculty buildings, mainly built for the English and linguistics departments. Interestingly, Ryan Reynolds, who appears in this scene, has filmed multiple times at this location, most recently in the Netflix film "The Adam Project."

Wolverine's Cabin

In the Movie

Scene where Logan, no longer able to tolerate Victor's cruelty, leaves Team X and moves to a secluded place in Canada to start a family and work as a lumberjack. He no longer wishes to participate in the team's special operations, but his former employers track him down and decide to visit James to force him to return.

In Reality

The scene was filmed not in Canada, as shown in the plot, but in New Zealand, specifically in the mountains near Queenstown. Literally a few hundred meters from Logan's cabin, a scene from "The Lord of the Rings" was filmed where wargs attack the convoy of men heading to Helm's Deep.

Carnival

In the Movie

Scene where a fair is going on and a couple approaches a tent with Chris Bradley sitting inside, a man with a mutation that allows him to control electricity. He offers for a dollar to try to turn off a light bulb in three attempts. Visitors, unaware of his superpowers, agree but fail.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in Sydney, at Jubilee Park. This was convenient for filming, and the location for the fair was not critical, so the film crew chose this spot. The only restriction was not to include the palm trees growing there in the frame, as the action takes place in the northern USA, where they don't typically grow.

Bridge to the Farm

In the Movie

Scene where a farmer drives an old pickup truck across a bridge on the way to the house. There they will find Logan hiding in their barn. They do not suspect that this encounter will lead to their deaths and the complete destruction of their home.

In Reality

The scene was filmed on a bridge over the Dart River in New Zealand, on the South Island. Near this location, some views for Isengard were filmed for "The Lord of the Rings."

Farm

In the Movie

Scene where Logan tries to hide on a farm, but Stryker's men find him as soon as he gets acquainted with the owners and attack Logan and the farm people. In the end, Wolverine blows up a helicopter and kills the attackers, but fails to protect the people.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in a field north of Mount Alfred, New Zealand. This building was specially built for the film and was blown up during filming, so no traces of the production remain in this area.

Forest Chase

In the Movie

Scene where Logan, after the farm explosion, gets on a bike and chases Zero's helicopter through the forest. Catching up, he blows up the helicopter, kills Zero, and, taking his radio, contacts Stryker and says he will kill him too.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the forest between the Dart River and Mount Pikirakatahi. The forest was chosen for its interesting coniferous trees with bright trunks and green crowns, providing an interesting color palette, and the vertical and fallen trunks create interesting shapes in the frame.

Scott Summers' School

In the Movie

Scene where Scott stays after school to serve detention and writes an "epitaph" on the board with chalk. At that moment, Victor comes for him—he is now abducting mutants for Stryker. During the fight, Victor's glasses fall off, and he destroys most of his own school.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at Lord Byng Secondary School, located in Vancouver, Canada. This institution played the role of a fairly decent American school in the film, but in a location where filming was cheaper than in the USA.

Three Mile Island

In the Movie

Scene where Logan infiltrates the laboratory on Three Mile Island to rescue all the mutants abducted by Victor and take them to a safe place. Stryker refuses to release Kayla's sister, who was watching Wolverine on his orders, and refuses to implant adamantium into Victor's skeleton, thereby losing two allies at once.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the buildings of Cockatoo Island, a small island near Sydney that was originally a prison and later a shipyard. Its abandoned buildings were perfect for depicting the laboratories at the nuclear plant.

Road in the Fields

In the Movie

Scene where Stryker walks along a road in the fields, dirty and with torn clothes. A military vehicle pulls up behind him, and people in peacekeeper helmets get out and say they have questions about the death of General Munson.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in the North 40 Park, a large off-leash dog park located near Boundary Bay Airport. The park was chosen for its proximity to the city while looking like a remote area away from civilization, with overgrown paths and fields with shrubs around. Originally, these paths were part of a station built for the Canadian Army Signal Corps during World War II and operated until 1971.
