The scene was filmed After the success of the nearby Egyptian Theatre, showman Sid Grauman built the Chinese Theatre in 1927, designed by architects Meyer and Holler. This grand movie palace was built at more than twice the cost of his previous building and is known for its opulence both inside and out. It was at this theatre that the famous celebrity handprints began, starting with Norma Talmadge before the building was even completed and now numbering over 200 concrete blocks in the forecourt. Grauman hired specialist Jean Klossner to develop an extremely hard concrete specifically for preserving the handprints.

The station was designed primarily by John and Donald Parkinson in a mishmash of different styles. Across the tracks, connected by an underground tunnel, is the Patsaouras Transit Plaza, designed by Ehrenkrantz & Eckstut, which serves several bus lines and also houses the Metro offices.
