The film is based on the novel "The Luck of Barry Lyndon" by William Makepeace Thackeray and tells the story of an ordinary Irish boy of the 18th century who "rose" to an aristocratic position in society. The filming took place in Dublin and throughout Ireland. The film crew shot luxurious palaces and castles in England, and moved to Germany for some scenes. Stanley Kubrick's team aimed to capture the spirit of the luxurious life of 18th-century aristocrats. To do this, they captured views of 17 castles and country houses across Great Britain.

The scene was filmed on the grounds of Blenheim Palace in England. The palace was built between 1705 and 1722 in the Baroque style. The castle in Oxfordshire is the ancestral home of the Dukes of Marlborough, which included Winston Churchill. The building is one of the largest palace and park ensembles in Great Britain. The palace is open to visitors, and corporate events and wedding celebrations can be held here.

Scene where Lady Lyndon, along with her son and the captain, stroll through the park. In the distance, they notice her husband kissing the governess. The heroine's son takes her hand in a gesture of support. Lady Lyndon looks dejected. They turn around and leave.

The scene was filmed on the grounds of Castle Howard in Great Britain. The castle is located in North Yorkshire and is the private residence of the Earls of Carlisle. The palace is one of the nine private "treasure houses" of England. The castle grounds include a French park and an arboretum.

Scene where after the duel with his stepson, Barry is brought to an inn. The hero has been wounded in the leg, and the doctor arrives to examine him. The doctor regretfully informs him that to save his life, the leg must be amputated.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at Lavenham Guildhall in England. This is a municipal two-story timber-framed building. By the end of the 14th century, the town of Lavenham became one of the richest towns in England. This prompted the creation of several guilds, which needed a place to operate. Hence, the building shown in the scene was constructed.
