In Reality

The scene was filmed at Bryant Park, located in the center of the city, which houses the New York Public Library. Originally opened in 1847 as Reservoir Square, it was renamed Bryant Park in 1884. Over the years, the park fell into disrepair until a renovation in the 1980s, when the entire park was rebuilt over the newly constructed underground stacks of the library.
Columbus Circle
In the Movie
In Reality
The scene was filmed at A large traffic circle located at the southwestern corner of Central Park, designed in 1857 as part of the original park plan and then called Grand Circle. In the center of the circle is a column erected in 1892 featuring a statue of Christopher Columbus, which eventually led to the circle's current name. For many official purposes, Columbus Circle is considered the center of the city. All highway distance signs to New York City are measured from the circle, as is the 25-mile radius for C-2 visas and the studio zone that determines the amount of compensation for film crews.
