The scene was filmed The southern shore of Manhattan was known as the Battery as early as the 17th century, when cannons were placed here to protect Manhattan from attacks from the sea. The remaining western battery, known as Castle Clinton and built shortly before the War of 1812, was originally erected on a small island off the coast, but over time the land expanded and surrounded the fort in 1855. The modern park now covers 25 acres and includes a small park, a restaurant, a carousel, and a World War II memorial.
