The scene was filmed Originally the Metropolitan was built in 1872 in the High Victorian Gothic style designed by architects Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould. The design of the original building was considered an eyesore, so by 1902 a new Beaux-Arts facade was built, along with a number of other improvements.
