The scene was filmed Originally, the Metropolitan was built in 1872 in the High Victorian Gothic style designed by architects Calvert Vaux and Jacob Wrey Mould. The design of the original building was considered an eyesore, so by 1902 a new Beaux-Arts facade was built, along with a number of other improvements. In the following decade, two more wings were built along Fifth Avenue, and over the next century the museum expanded in a jumble of different styles, now covering an area 20 times larger than the original building - over two million square feet. The Metropolitan is the largest art museum in the United States, with a permanent collection of over two million works. Part of the collection is housed at The Cloisters, a small museum dedicated to medieval art and architecture in Fort Tryon Park.
