The scene was filmed at Sheep Meadow is the largest open field in the original Central Park plan, covering 15 acres. Despite its natural appearance, the meadow turned out to be the most expensive part of the original park because it required moving a several-foot-thick layer of landfill to raise the ground, and a 16-foot ridge and several large boulders to achieve a level terrain. A flock of over 200 sheep grazed on the meadow until 1934, when they were removed to prevent them from being eaten during the Great Depression. The meadow often hosts large-scale events, including a peace protest in 1967 that drew over 400,000 people.
