In Reality

The scene was filmed at The southern shore of Manhattan was known as the Battery as early as the 17th century, when cannons were placed here to defend Manhattan from sea attacks. The remaining western battery, known as Castle Clinton and built shortly before the War of 1812, was originally erected on a small island off the shore, but over time the land expanded and surrounded the fort by 1855. The modern park now covers 25 acres and includes a small park, a restaurant, a carousel, and a World War II memorial.

Unisphere

In the Movie

Scene where Kay and Jay park near the Unisphere and use their big guns to shoot down a stolen spaceship, causing it to crash into the Unisphere.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at Built for the 1964 New York World's Fair, the Unisphere is a 120-foot stainless steel globe, the largest in the world, designed by landscape architect Gilmore D. Clarke to fit into his larger park plan. The globe is surrounded by three orbital rings representing the orbits of Yuri Gagarin, John Glenn, and the Telstar satellite. This globe replaced the older Perisphere, which was built on the same site for the 1939 World's Fair but was scrapped after the event.
