The City Hall was opened in 2002, two years after the formation of the GLA, and was designed by Norman Foster in a neo-futuristic style with a glass bulb. The main atrium features a 500-meter spiral walkway that rises all ten floors, with the council chamber at the bottom visible from any point in the atrium.

The scene was filmed at Freemasons' Hall - the headquarters of the United Grand Lodge of England and a meeting place for many local Masonic lodges. Although the Grand Lodge has occupied the site since 1775, the current hall was built only in 1933 in the Art Deco style by architects Henry Victor Ashley and F. Winton Newman in honor of Masons who died in World War I. The building contains the Grand Temple, where the Grand Lodge meets, 26 other Masonic temples for local branches, and the Museum of Freemasonry.
