The film was shot primarily in England. Many exterior scenes, including shots against the backdrop of picturesque English countryside and London suburbs, were filmed on real locations, which helped create the atmosphere of a typical British estate. Studio soundstages were also used for interior filming.

The scene was filmed at Trafalgar Square, a large public square opened in 1844 after nearly twenty years of construction designed by architect John Nash. The square is named to commemorate the British naval victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, and features Nelson's Column, a 218-foot monument to Admiral Nelson who died in the battle. At the north end of the square is the National Gallery, and beneath it is Charing Cross Underground station.
