The scene was filmed at The James Oviatt Building - a historic Art Deco high-rise built in 1928 for successful haberdasher James Oviatt. The main entrance is adorned with a 12-ton illuminated glass canopy and an arcade ceiling designed by Ferdinand Chanut and Gaetan Jeannin. The impressive Art Deco lobby and mezzanine were converted into the restaurant and dance club Cicada.

The scene was filmed at The Ambassador Hotel was built in 1921 by architect Myron Hunt in the Mediterranean Revival style. Over the years, the hotel and its nightclub Cocoanut Grove were very popular celebrity hangouts. In 1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in the hotel's main kitchen, which began the hotel's rapid decline. The hotel closed to guests in 1989, though it remained open for filming and special events. The hotel was finally demolished in 2005, preserving only a few small parts that were used to build the new Los Angeles High School of the Arts.
