The scene was filmed at The Ambassador Hotel was built in 1921 by architect Myron Hunt in the Mediterranean Revival style. For many years, the hotel and the Cocoanut Grove nightclub inside were very popular celebrity spots. In 1968, Senator Robert F. Kennedy was assassinated in the hotel's main kitchen, which began the hotel's rapid decline. The hotel closed to guests in 1989, although it remained open for filming and special events. In 2005, the hotel was finally demolished, preserving only a few small fragments that were used to build the new Los Angeles High School of the Arts.

The building was designed in a combination of various styles and did not claim any specific style. Because the city charter limited building height, the tower was the tallest building in Los Angeles until 1964.
