The scene was filmed at St Pancras Station was built by the Midland Railway in 1868 as the terminus of its main line into London. It was designed by William Henry Barlow with a single-span iron roof, the largest roof of its time at 245 feet. In the early 2000s, the platforms were extended with a new train shed to allow the station to accommodate longer Eurostar trains arriving through the tunnel. Immediately after the station's completion, construction began on a hotel at the front of the station, designed by architect George Gilbert Scott in the Italian Gothic style using polychrome brick. The hotel operated until 1935, when it was converted into offices, but in 2011 it was renovated and turned back into a hotel.

The museum was built in the decommissioned Bankside Power Station, which operated on coal and oil from 1891 to 1981. After the station closed, several attempts were made to list the building, but they were rejected. The Tate group acquired the building in 1994 and spent about £134 million converting it into a museum.

The stations were decommissioned in 1975 and sat empty for over 35 years as various redevelopment plans failed. Redevelopment of the site finally began in 2013, with Malaysian developer and architect Frank Gehry in partnership with Foster + Partners restoring the power station into offices, primarily housing Apple's largest European offices, and adding over 4,000 homes on the surrounding site.
