The scene was filmed in the main building of the New York Public Library. It was completed in 1910, but only opened in 1911, as it took a year to place more than one million books on the shelves. In the 1980s, the library was expanded under the adjacent Bryant Park, where kilometers of new shelves were installed to store the growing collection.
