The scene was filmed at the large traffic circle located at the southwest corner of Central Park, designed in 1857 as part of the original park plan and then called Grand Circle. In the center of the circle stands a column erected in 1892 with a statue of Christopher Columbus, which eventually led to the current name of the circle. For many official purposes, Columbus Circle is considered the center of the city. All highway distance signs to New York are measured from the circle, as is the 25-mile radius for C-2 visas and the studio zone that determines compensation for film crews.
