The scene was filmed at Over the years, the Place de la Concorde has been renamed several times. During the French Revolution, it was called Place de la Révolution. In the period preceding the French Revolution, a statue of King Louis XV stood on the Place de la Concorde. However, during the Revolution, this statue was destroyed, and a guillotine appeared in its place. The guillotine was not just for show; it was actually used. Over two and a half years, more than 1,100 death sentences were carried out on the square. The most famous people to die on the square were King Louis XVI and his wife Marie Antoinette. Later, a 23-meter obelisk, a gift to Paris from the Egyptian viceroy Mohammed Ali, was erected on the site of the guillotine. The obelisk was delivered without the golden tip it now has; in 1998, the French government commissioned a new pyramid-shaped top for the obelisk. Next to the obelisk are two large fountains, the Fontaine des Fleuves and the Fontaine des Mers.
