The scene was filmed at Perkinsville is named after A. M. Perkins, who established a cattle ranch here in 1900. In the early 20th century, about 10-12 families lived in Perkinsville. The village soon turned into a ghost town.

The scene was filmed at Monument Valley is a region of the Colorado Plateau characterized by a cluster of vast sandstone buttes, the largest reaching 1,000 ft (300 m) above the valley floor. It is located on the Arizona-Utah border, near the Four Corners area. The valley lies within the Navajo Nation Reservation and is accessible via U.S. Highway 163. A 14-mile dirt road allows you to tour most of the major monuments, and Navajo guides can take you deeper into the valley, to Mystery Valley, Hunts Mesa, and other locations.

The scene was filmed at Convict Lake is known for its turquoise-blue water, dramatic mountains (including Mount Morrison) that surround it, trout fishing, and its unusual history. The lake, known to the Paiute as Wit-sa-nap, was renamed by settlers after an incident on September 23, 1871, when a group of convicts escaped from prison in Carson City, Nevada, and took refuge near the lake. They were pursued by a posse, and after the posse caught up with the convicts, a shootout ensued in which several posse members and convicts were killed or wounded. The surviving convicts initially fled but were eventually captured and lynched.
