The scene was filmed at The hotel was named after mining magnate and U.S. Senator James Graham Fair (1831-94) by his daughters, Theresa Fair Oelrichs and Virginia Fair Vanderbilt, who built the hotel in his honor. Construction of the hotel was nearly complete before the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Although the structure survived, the interior was heavily damaged by fire, and the opening was delayed until 1907.

The scene was filmed at Alcatraz Island is located in San Francisco Bay, 1.25 miles (2.01 km) offshore from San Francisco. On Alcatraz Island is the abandoned prison, the oldest operating lighthouse on the West Coast of the United States, and early military fortifications. The prison housed such notorious criminals as Al Capone, Robert Franklin Stroud, also known as the Birdman of Alcatraz. A total of 36 prisoners made 14 escape attempts. On June 11, 1962, Frank Morris, John Anglin, and Clarence Anglin made one of the most famous escapes ever devised. On March 21, 1963, Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy ordered the prison closed.

The scene was filmed at Originally built for the 1915 Panama-Pacific Exposition. It was rebuilt in 1965. The most notable building of the complex is the open rotunda. Its height is 162 feet (49 m). On the floor under the dome is a plaque from the Lucasfilm Foundation, the charitable foundation of Star Wars creator George Lucas. The Palace of Fine Arts is just an 11-minute walk from the Lucasfilm offices in San Francisco. Star Wars fans won't want to miss the Yoda Fountain, which is open to the public.
