The scene was filmed at Cathedral Cove Marine Reserve (Te Whanganui-A-Hei) covers an area of 840 hectares (2,100 acres). This area is very popular with tourists, visited by about 150,000 people per year. Cathedral Cove is a 45-minute walk from the coastal resort of Hahei on the Pacific coast. A good way to visit the cove is by boat tours to the Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve, some of which are among the best boat tours in New Zealand. Cathedral Cove can be visited at any time of year. The highest number of visitors occurs during the Kiwi summer holidays (December, January). It is best to visit the cove early in the morning or late in the evening.
