The film "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" was filmed in Sylva and Black Mountain, USA. Interestingly, the shooting took place not in the state of Missouri, nor even on the state border, but in North Carolina, meaning you still have to drive across the entire state of Tennessee to reach Missouri.

In Reality

The scene was filmed along North Fork Road on land typically used for cattle grazing. In reality, there are no billboards here; they were installed specifically for the film. This is natural, as the road is too unpopular for advertising.

Scene where Mildred arrives at Red Welby's office to make an interesting deal — to place three billboards in a location where no one has advertised for a long time and pay for them upfront for an extended period.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at a building housing a small farm store. The filming took place in the town of Sylva, where other scenes in the film were also shot.

Souvenir Shop

Scene where Mildred works in a souvenir shop in a small town. The sheriff comes in to find out if Mildred attacked the dentist. He says that since the dentist filed charges, they have to detain her for questioning.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in a small town west of Sylva. In reality, it is also a souvenir and local wine shop. Therefore, for the film, all the goods inside had to be replaced with souvenirs from Missouri.

Scene where Dixon goes to a bar to meet the alleged rapist of Mildred's daughter. He deliberately picks a fight with him to scratch his face and obtain DNA samples that can be used in the investigation.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in a small bar in the town of Black Mountain. The location was chosen for its authentic look of a small pub in a small town, which resembles a typical American bar with a pool table, stage, and long bar counter.

Ebbing Police Department (Bathroom)

Scene where Willoughby meets Dixon in the police station bathroom, where they hug and cry, and after making sure both feel better, they wash up and go back to the station.

In Reality

The scene was filmed in a church, as most of the "Police Station" scenes were shot in a converted store, and there was simply no room of the required size with sinks and stalls there.
