The scene was filmed Originally, Piccadilly Circus was built as Regent Circus South in 1819 and got its current name in the 1880s. Starting in 1908 with the Perrier sign, the intersection was surrounded by characteristic illuminated signs, giving it a distinctive Times Square feel, although now all that has been reduced to a single building on the northwest corner of the circle. The Shaftesbury Memorial Fountain, originally located in the center of the circle but moved as roads changed, was built in 1892 in memory of the Victorian-era politician Lord Shaftesbury.
