The scene was filmed A historic building originally built as a courthouse in 1916, it was recently used as part of P.G.T. Beauregard Middle School. It served as the first St. Bernard Parish courthouse until 1939 when the parish administration moved to Chalmette.

The scene was filmed The exact location is currently unknown. Lake Pontchartrain is actually not a lake but an estuary. It is approximately 40 miles wide from east to west and 24 miles from north to south. Lake Pontchartrain was named by French explorer Pierre Le Moyne d'Iberville in 1699. Native Americans called it Okwata, meaning "wide water."
