The best scenes in the film «The Lost Daughter» were shot on the beautiful island of Spetses in Greece. Screenwriter and director Maggie Gyllenhaal originally planned to shoot in New Jersey, USA, but due to COVID-19 restrictions, she decided to change the entire film's setting to Greece. Instead of filming the movie piecemeal, all scenes were adapted to a new script centered around the fictional island of Kyopeli. The island's backdrop, pubs, bars, eateries, and scenes match the original book locations so perfectly that many fans couldn't notice the difference in setting. This excellent work demonstrates a remarkable understanding of choosing ideal filming locations.

In Spetses, private car traffic is prohibited within the city. The most common modes of transport are walking, horse-drawn carriages, bicycles, and mopeds. There are taxis and delivery vehicles in the city. Ferries and high-speed hydrofoils regularly arrive from the port of Piraeus in Athens. Since 1821, the island played an important role in the Greek War of Independence, and the famous war heroine Laskarina Bouboulina lived here.

The scene was filmed on the beautiful beach Paralia Zogeria, which means Zogeria beach (paralia is beach in Greek). This stunning beach is located in the northwestern part of the Greek island of Spetses. The beach is part of a natural bay surrounded by pine trees, with a small restaurant serving fruit ice and espresso.
