The scene was filmed at Motif Number 1, located on Bradley Wharf in the port town of Rockport, Massachusetts, is a replica of a former fishing shack, well known to art and art history students as "the most often painted building in America." The original structure was built in 1840 and destroyed during a snowstorm in 1978, but an exact replica was built the same year. In the 1930s, artist John Buckley used the shack as his studio.[4] He sold it to the town in 1945, dedicating it "In 1945 the town of Rockport acquired 'Motif' as a memorial to the people of Rockport who served in the armed forces." In the dentist's office in the popular animated film "Finding Nemo," a photo of Motif Number 1 hangs on the wall - a tribute from director Andrew Stanton to his hometown of Rockport.
