Initially, filming was planned in New York, but later it was decided to find a small sunny town, and in the film to present a fictional place. The film crew made only a few changes to the house before filming. They painted the exterior, placed different furniture, and changed the house number above the door to 36. The owners believe this was done because 36 is visually more pleasing than 31. After filming, the owners decided to keep the new number on the house, and after so many years, it is still there!
