The scene was filmed The studio built a baseball stadium on two farms a few miles from Dyersville. After filming was completed, the baseball diamond created for the film was left in place. Most of the baseball field, including the field and adjacent house, was on one farm owned by the Lansing family, but the left and center parts of the field were on the neighboring farm owned by the Ameskamp family. The field was built on two plots because the producers wanted the field to be in a location where the sunset would not interfere with filming. After filming was completed, the Lansing family kept their part of the field untouched and added a small hut where visitors could buy souvenirs. The Ameskamp family returned their land to farming for a year, but then restored the remaining part of the field and opened their own souvenir kiosk. The two owners operated different tourist attractions and also feuded over the commercialization of the site.
