In Reality

The scene was filmed at the Gran Hotel, located at the southernmost end of the Zócalo. This building appeared as a "Shopping Center" in 1899, built for José de Teresa, a merchant and Mexico's ambassador to Austria. The hotel interior retains much of the original decor created for the time when it was a department store. It is luxuriously decorated in Art Nouveau style. The building was converted into a hotel in 1968 to accommodate the crowds of guests for the 1968 Summer Olympics. The hotel has been featured in many films, including the James Bond film 'Spectre'.

The scene was filmed at Knight's Key, an island in the middle Florida Keys, located entirely within the city limits of Marathon, Florida. Before the completion of the Overseas Railroad extension to Key West, Knight's Key was the terminus of the line, and a major seaport existed there.
