Scene where The marchers, wanting to walk through Selma, begin crossing the bridge. The marchers are stopped by a squad of armed soldiers on the other side of the bridge. When the soldiers start using violence, the whole country sees it on television.

In Reality

The scene was filmed at the bridge was named after Edmund Winston Pettus, a former Confederate brigadier general and U.S. Senator from Alabama. It was the site of the Bloody Sunday conflict on March 7, 1965. In 2013, the bridge was declared a National Historic Landmark.
